About the position

SAIC is seeking a Senior Azure Cloud Computing Engineer for the Cloud One program under the Air Force Lifecycle Management Center Office for Network Integration (AFLCMC/HNI). The Cloud One Common Computing Environment is an existing global, interconnected, virtualized, hybrid, and IT infrastructure hosting mission systems, applications, services, and data that will serve the U.S. Air Force (USAF) and U.S. Army (USA). Cloud One incorporates the capabilities of commercial cloud and Managed Service Providers (MSP) residing in Cloud Service Providers (CSPs). Cloud One facilitates the USAF and USA's efforts to migrate applications to a cloud environment, allowing the closure of data centers to support the Data Center Optimization Initiative (DCOI) and allowing for increased efficiencies across the entire spectrum of the USAF and USA's IT operations. This candidate will be part of a team responsible for the management, operations, support, and oversight of the Cloud One Azure environments. This position is 100% remote.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and integrate cloud computing and virtualization systems.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement tools and services for the most efficient solution to enhance capabilities of cloud-based and virtualized services and meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
  • Develop and conduct testing of cloud and virtualization systems.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in Azure industry standards and in related cloud computing and virtualization technologies such as cloud service provider architecture, design, and configuration; cloud deployment models including public, community, private, and hybrid; cloud service delivery models including infrastructure-, platform-, and software-as-a-service; automation; hypervisors; containers; virtual compute, storage, and networks; virtual infrastructure management; self-provisioning; and scaling.
  • Advise and assist the team lead to forecast, develop, and prioritize roadmap items to meet current and anticipated operational requirements.
  • Work within the Agile Framework to meet operational and scheduling objectives.
  • Research and evaluate technical capabilities and new security tools and products against operational requirements and introduces them to the enterprise in alignment with C1 strategy, and roadmap to assure the availability, the offensive and defensive capability design and troubleshoot and problem solve technical and non-technical issues.
  • Identify and develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity, and considerable experience, within the bounds of administrative and operational constraints and with minimal oversight.
  • Work independently or as part of a team in a virtualized Azure cloud environment via both graphical (Azure Portal) and command-line interfaces (Powershell, CloudShell, Red Hat Linux, Windows Server Core).
  • Work with and assist other team members in utilizing automated configuration management tools, including software such as Powershell, Ansible, Terraform, Kusto Query Language, and Desired State Configuration.
  • Employ security, automation, and orchestration to enable continuous integration and continuous delivery of applications and infrastructure at scale.
  • Troubleshoot complex and nuanced infrastructure problems and work with a team to resolve large-scale production issues.
  • Assist fellow engineers to resolve blockers and complete assigned tasks within prescribed scheduling and architectural constraints.
  • Minimize risk of reliability related failure outcomes as pertaining to durability, availability, performance, and correctness.
  • Proactively identify and resolve operational, tooling, and process inefficiencies.
  • Identify and implement creative solutions to resolve the most complex customer incident tickets promptly and maintain regular contact with customers for the duration of the incident.

Requirements

  • Interim Secret clearance required to start; Ability to obtain a Secret clearance (or higher) required to maintain employment.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Security+ Certification.
  • Bachelor's and six (6) years experience in an IT related discipline (preferred) and 10+ years of relevant experience. Additional years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Expert understanding of, and experience with, deployments of various systems and services to Azure cloud environments.
  • Expert knowledge of Azure services, including Azure Active Directory, Azure Managed Service Identity, Azure Automation, Azure Functions, Azure Resource Manager (ARM), Desired State Config (DSC), Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Policy, and Azure App Service.
  • Expertise in working projects that use CI/CD and streamlined DevOps workflows such as Azure Pipelines/TFS, GitLab.
  • Expertise with scripting using Windows PowerShell, Shell scripts, Python, Bash, or other similar languages.
  • Experience working on integrated teams requiring high levels of customer contact and collaboration, design, implementation, and involvement in project planning.
  • Experience with DevSecOps, Agile, Scrum, SAFe or other modern software development methods/practices.
  • Experience of design and implementation of IaaS and PaaS solutions executed and repeated in DevOps solution framework and with DevOps tools using Azure DevOps and Terraform.
