About the position

The Senior Azure Cloud DevOps Engineer at DataFielder Inc. is responsible for accelerating the adoption of scientific cloud computing and implementing best practices within the enterprise. This role focuses on systems reliability, auditing existing systems, and developing configurations in networking, security, and infrastructure-as-code. The engineer will design and operate enterprise data services, automate data modeling processes, and explore emerging tools and approaches in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on systems reliability and best practices, auditing existing systems and developing proper configurations in networking, RBAC/IAM, security, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and high-performance computing.
  • Design, develop, and operate enterprise data services to modernize and integrate these services with existing and planned systems.
  • Expand the quantity and quality of data services and assist programs in creating new public health data products using the data platform.
  • Explore and evaluate emerging tools and enterprise approaches, such as machine learning operations, dynamic visualizations, and containerization.
  • Automate data modeling processes with an emphasis on DevSecOps best practices using secured code and data repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.
  • 6+ years of experience in Azure cloud engineering, architecture, and/or DevSecOps.
  • 6+ years of git (version control) experience in a fast-paced team-based setting.
  • 6+ years' experience with Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, and related technology.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices and experience with PowerShell / CLI.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD including GitHub Actions and YAML.
  • Understanding and experience in setting up organizational Self-hosted Runners in GitHub Actions.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure Identity and Access Management, Governance, and Security best practices.
  • Solid experience with Azure Batch computing and related services.
  • Proficiency in Python or R for scripting and automation tasks; familiarity with data manipulation libraries is preferred.
  • Experience with data pipeline architecture and management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Existing CDC badge and clearance.
  • Prior experience working for CDC.
  • 6+ years of Bash and Unix-scripting.
  • 6+ years' experience working with Linux distributions, including Ubuntu.
  • Prior production experience with DAG tools (i.e. Airflow, Nextflow) is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of cloud security best practices and data governance frameworks.
