About the position

The Senior Backend Engineer at OneRail is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend services that ensure scalability, reliability, and performance. This role involves collaborating with frontend engineers and other stakeholders to implement backend features, while also mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team growth. The position is integral to the success of OneRail's delivery orchestration platform, which connects shippers to a courier ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-quality backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define and implement backend features.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient backend code following best practices.
• Ensure backend services are scalable, reliable, and performant using Azure services such as Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Function Apps.
• Integrate backend services with frontend applications using Axios and Exegesis & OpenAPI.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
• Identify and fix backend bugs and performance issues.
• Stay updated with the latest backend development trends and technologies.
• Mentor junior backend engineers and contribute to team growth.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in backend software development.
• Proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, and Azure services.
• Strong understanding of backend architecture and design patterns.
• Experience with database management and optimization using Azure Cosmos DB and MySQL.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

• Experience with real-time data ingestion platforms.
• Knowledge of security best practices in backend development.
• Contributions to open-source backend projects.
• Familiarity with frontend integrations and supporting frontend teams.
