About the position

Arc is on a mission to electrify all waterborne vessels, starting with electric water sport boats. We aim to provide a superior alternative to gas boats, which are often unreliable, expensive, and harmful to the environment. Our electric boats are designed to be more reliable, cost-effective, quieter, and cleaner. We are leveraging modern aerospace and automotive techniques to develop our hulls, batteries, cooling systems, firmware, and software, creating the next generation of watercraft. We are looking for a full-time member of our Software Engineering team to work at our manufacturing facility in Torrance, CA. This role requires adaptability in a fast-moving startup environment, and we value transparency and ownership in our team members.

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend systems powering our boat infotainment systems and mobile app
• Building and optimizing data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and visualizing boat telemetry data
• Developing internal tools to improve our manufacturing processes
• Managing cloud resources and infrastructure
• Identifying opportunities to use software to accelerate the company's trajectory

Requirements

• At least 5 years of industry experience with expertise in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Typescript, Python, Java, Go, Rust)
• Experience overseeing technical projects, including communicating with stakeholders, prioritizing high ROI features, driving towards a technical vision, and delegating workscope
• Proficiency with at least one cloud platform (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps best practices
• Deep understanding of API design and microservices architecture
• Demonstrated ability to optimize backend systems for performance, cost, and scale
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Excellent grasp of the fundamentals of software engineering and passion for developing high quality, maintainable software

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Amazon Web Services
• Familiarity with data processing and analytics tools (e.g. BigQuery, Apache Spark, Kafka)
• Experience with an Infrastructure as Code framework such as Terraform
• Experience with real-time data processing and IoT systems
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and tools such as manufacturing execution systems (MESs)
• Experience with machine learning and predictive analytics
• Comfortable in a fast paced and dynamic environment
• Enthusiasm for boating and clean energy
