About the position

Arc is seeking a passionate and adaptable Software Engineer to join our team in Los Angeles, focused on developing innovative electric watercraft. The role involves designing and maintaining backend systems for our boat infotainment systems and mobile applications, while also optimizing data pipelines and managing cloud infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic startup environment, contributing to the electrification of waterborne vessels and driving positive environmental change.

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend systems powering our boat infotainment systems and mobile app.
• Building and optimizing data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and visualizing boat telemetry data.
• Developing internal tools to improve our manufacturing processes.
• Managing cloud resources and infrastructure.
• Identifying opportunities to use software to accelerate the company's trajectory.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of industry experience with expertise in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Typescript, Python, Java, Go, Rust).
• Experience overseeing technical projects, including communicating with stakeholders, prioritizing high ROI features, driving towards a technical vision, and delegating work scope.
• Proficiency with at least one cloud platform (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps best practices.
• Deep understanding of API design and microservices architecture.
• Demonstrated ability to optimize backend systems for performance, cost, and scale.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent grasp of the fundamentals of software engineering and passion for developing high quality, maintainable software.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Amazon Web Services.
• Familiarity with data processing and analytics tools (e.g. BigQuery, Apache Spark, Kafka).
• Experience with an Infrastructure as Code framework such as Terraform.
• Experience with real-time data processing and IoT systems.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and tools such as manufacturing execution systems (MESs).
• Experience with machine learning and predictive analytics.
• Enthusiasm for boating and clean energy.
