About the position

The Senior Bioinformatics Research Scientist will perform data analysis, visualization, statistical analysis, experimental design, and database development within the Microbial Computational Genomics and Bioinformatics Laboratory at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This role focuses on analyzing microbial and host omics datasets, particularly comparative analysis of bacterial and viral genomic datasets, and provides bioinformatics support to researchers in the Host-Microbe Interactions department and the Center for Infectious Diseases Research.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data analysis, data visualization, and statistical analysis.
  • Develop bioinformatics pipelines and analytical solutions.
  • Communicate analytical processes and results to investigators.
  • Collaborate with researchers to provide study design and analysis support.
  • Monitor project progress and propose solutions to barriers.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and manuscripts as an author or co-author.
  • Establish best practices for data processing and analysis of omics datasets.

Requirements

  • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field with extensive experience in microbial bioinformatics and data science.
  • Strong publication record in bioinformatics and computational biology focusing on microbial pathogens.
  • Experience analyzing large-scale datasets including whole genome sequencing and transcriptomics.
  • Proficient in statistical analysis and data visualization using software like R and Python.
  • Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) workload management software.
  • Knowledge of software tool development and version control software.
  • Ability to generate reproducible code using workflow management systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in the field of infectious diseases.
  • Familiarity with genome annotation and protein structure modeling.
  • Experience with metagenomics and transposon sequencing.
