About the position

The Senior Biomedical Engineering Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, calibration, repair, and preventative maintenance of various biomedical equipment within the Santa Clara Valley Health Care system. This role involves ensuring the safety and functionality of electronic, diagnostic, and therapeutic devices, while also providing training and support to medical staff on the proper use of this equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and electrical safety inspections on biomedical equipment.
• Make electronic, electrical, and mechanical repairs, modifications, and calibrations on various types of medical equipment.
• Initiate purchase requests for repair parts and accessories.
• Maintain accurate maintenance history records and manage repair parts inventory.
• Assist in training medical staff on electrical safety and proper equipment usage.
• Assemble, configure, and install medical equipment such as beds and patient transport devices.
• Prepare reports related to equipment management and safety compliance.
• Review the work of Biomedical Equipment Technicians and provide technical instruction.
• May represent the Biomedical Technical unit on interdepartmental committees.

Requirements

• Four years of full-time experience performing preventative maintenance and repairs on biomedical equipment.
• Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician issued by the International Certification Commission (desirable).
• Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory, medical equipment, and safety standards.
• Ability to interpret schematics and analyze malfunctions in biomedical instrumentation.
• Effective communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with advanced databases and software languages related to biomedical equipment.
• Knowledge of Joint Commission, Title 22, and FDA requirements for hospital equipment.
