About the position

The Quantitative Sciences Unit (QSU) at Stanford University is dedicated to facilitating innovative scientific studies initiated by Stanford investigators. The Senior Biostatistician (Biostatistician 3) will play a pivotal role in this mission by independently designing studies, analyzing data, and disseminating findings. This position requires collaboration with investigators on proposal or grant development, taking the statistical lead on various studies, and overseeing lower-level biostatisticians in tasks such as data cleaning and the creation of analytic files. The Senior Biostatistician will also lead statistical projects that involve collaborations on topics such as statistical software and evaluation of methods. Key duties include overseeing lower-level staff to ensure quality control and the creation of analytic files, identifying appropriate statistical tools for analysis, implementing data analysis through statistical programming, and consulting with investigators on suitable statistical approaches for data analyses. The role also involves assisting in study design, developing oral and written presentations of findings for conferences and peer-reviewed journals, and mentoring clinical investigators on relevant research methods. Additionally, the Senior Biostatistician will implement studies to address statistical issues arising from collaborations, ensuring that the research conducted is robust and scientifically sound.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee lower-level staff on quality control.
  • Oversee lower-level staff on creation of analytic files.
  • Identify appropriate statistical tools for analysis.
  • Implement data analysis through statistical programming.
  • Consult with investigators and others on appropriate statistical approaches to data analyses; assist in study design.
  • Develop oral and written dissemination of findings for conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • Mentor clinical investigators on relevant research methods.
  • Implement studies to address statistical issues arising from collaborations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics or related field and five years of experience or Ph.D. in biostatistics, statistics or related field.
  • Proficient in at least two of R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA.
  • Skills in descriptive analysis, modeling of data, and graphic interfaces.
  • Outstanding ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated excellence in at least one area of expertise, which may include coordinating studies; statistical methodology such as missing data, survival analysis, statistical genetics, or informatics; statistical computing; database design (e.g., expertise in RedCAP or MySQL); graphical techniques (e.g., expertise in Illustrator).
