Responsibilities

  • Prepare or direct the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for difficult projects.
  • Plan and develop engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial problems.
  • Organize and develop project team to execute specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, project design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and project inspection.
  • Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements.
  • Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and manpower, resolving engineering design problems.
  • Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Show understanding of team management, develop project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and track project progress.
  • Assure that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and within the budget that has been assigned.
  • Maintain liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field.
  • Develop and present proposals to clients.
  • Direct the inspection of construction site to monitor progress and ensure general conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards.
  • Plan and execute project meetings. May negotiate a difficult project issue with the client, such as scope changes or schedule acceleration.
  • Assure the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Interpret changes in the contract and advise management on needed changes.
  • May set up and perform a client marketing meeting.
  • Maintain professional, technical, and supervisory skills by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Over 10 years of experience in the civil/structural design, rehabilitation, and evaluation of bridges along with the preparation of load ratings, construction documents, specifications, and estimates.
  • An Ohio Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within six months.
  • Strong experience with structural/bridge design process through application of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications requirements.
  • Demonstrated track record of providing Project Management and Senior Structural engineering design services for the successful completion of bridge projects.
  • Strong experience with the structural/bridge design process through application of the ODOT Bridge Design Manual requirements.
  • Established working relationship and credibility with ODOT bridge design staff.
  • Strong background in the design of bridges for ODOT and other local transportation agencies.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and experience with engineering design packages such as MicroStation (required), AutoCAD (desirable), AASHTO BrR, LEAP Bridge, and LARSA.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree (MCE / MSCE) in Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Class I railroad bridge design experience and knowledge of the AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering is a plus.
  • Design-Build experience is a plus.
