About the position

The Senior Budget Analyst at Montclair State University plays a crucial role in assisting with the budget process and management. This position involves gathering, analyzing, and presenting financial and statistical data to support decision-making for both internal and external audiences. The analyst will work closely with various departments to uphold university policies and enhance business practices related to budgeting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and monitoring of the University's annual operating budget.
  • Serve as Budget Office liaison to specific academic and administrative units of the University as assigned.
  • Provide budget analyses and forecasts for leadership decision making and for internal and external audiences.
  • Assist with the development of personnel and fringe budgets.
  • Assist with long-range financial projections potentially including auxiliary services, financial aid, state funding allocations, faculty teaching load, and others.
  • Use a variety of data systems and spreadsheets to analyze student enrollment, personnel headcount and other statistical data that impact financials.
  • Use the University's financial system to create or approve budget journals and transfers.
  • Assist with the development of budgeting and reporting software used by Budget & Planning.
  • Work with partners in Finance & Treasury, Facilities, and other administrative departments on areas of shared interest.
  • Uphold and support existing University policies and procedures and make recommendations that enhance its business practices.
  • Serve on ad hoc committees and task forces, etc., as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a budget, finance, or related analytical role.
  • Knowledge of basic budget analysis techniques.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with computer systems for finance and budgeting.
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts to a variety of employees in the University.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and learn new systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in related field.
  • Experience working in a university or large non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of Workday Financials.
