About the position

The Senior Business Control Manager will oversee the capital markets first line risk program at City National Bank, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations across various financial services verticals. This role involves managing a team to design, implement, and enhance risk management processes, conducting risk assessments, and reporting findings to senior management. The position requires collaboration with multiple departments and a focus on maintaining high standards of compliance and operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for a strong capital markets first line risk program focusing on applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage the team in developing, implementing, and monitoring controls and procedures for compliance.
  • Evaluate existing processes and recommend improvements to manage and reduce risk effectively.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify exposures and prioritize them accordingly.
  • Support the resolution of issues identified through various lines of defense and regulatory examinations.
  • Analyze findings and perform root cause analysis to distinguish compliance levels and risks.
  • Prepare corrective action plans and validate their implementation with business lines.
  • Maintain expertise in relevant laws and regulations affecting the business unit.
  • Identify and escalate risk issues to leadership and the second line of defense.
  • Assess risk issues related to new or revised products and services. Ensure adherence to all bank policies and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 8 years managing projects.
  • Minimum 8 years within or related to financial services.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills to interact with colleagues at all levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA, JD, or other advanced degree preferred.
  • 8-10 years of experience managing projects.
  • Diverse problem-solving experience.
  • Outstanding analytical skills and structured thinking.
