About the position

The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst is a fully-qualified position responsible for obtaining, developing, and analyzing data to prove or disprove hypotheses and develop insights. This role requires a proactive approach in consulting with divisional leaders to understand their analytic needs and provide possible solutions. The individual will be expected to work independently while interacting with business leaders and identifying opportunities for further analysis that can help the business achieve its goals. A deep understanding of Thrivent's products, systems, and processes is essential for success in this role. In this position, the analyst will collaborate with technical and business resources to define specific hypotheses or questions to evaluate and analyze. They will conduct complex SQL queries and utilize various data extraction, reporting, and analytic tools to validate and develop analyses and reports that provide actionable insights. The analyst will also develop plans to evaluate hypotheses, measure performance, and produce models and data that support business operations. The role involves leading medium to large-sized projects, mentoring other analysts, and performing complex modeling, data mining, and analysis projects that inform corporate stakeholders. Regular procedures such as preparing scheduled reports and documenting business processes will also be part of the responsibilities. The analyst must possess strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a sense of urgency.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with technical resources, business resources, and business owners to define specific hypotheses/questions to evaluate and analyze.
  • Conduct complex SQL queries and work with data extraction, reporting, and analytic tools to validate and develop analysis and reporting.
  • Develop plans to evaluate hypotheses/questions, measure performance, and produce models and data.
  • Partner with business, IT, and customers to ensure actionable insights or data streams meet management requirements.
  • Lead medium to large-sized projects and mentor other analysts as needed.
  • Perform complex modeling, data mining, and analysis projects to support corporate stakeholders.
  • Prepare scheduled reports and document as-is and to-be business processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applied mathematics, statistics, management information systems, actuarial science, or equivalent experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial services and/or research and analytics or 4+ years of experience in the actuarial field.
  • Advanced skill in using analytics tools (such as SAS, SPSS, Minitab, R, etc.) in a corporate environment.
  • Advanced skill in design and execution of complex statistical modeling and testing involving linear and non-linear regression techniques.
  • Advanced skill with relational databases, data warehousing, data mining, and OLAP.
  • Advanced skill in experimental design and impact assessment.
  • Solid business acumen working with insurance or investment environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to tailor key insights and messages appropriately for different audiences.
  • Ability to work at both a conceptual and detail level with strong statistical data analysis skills.
  • Able to translate strategic business logic into technical report requirements and schema design.
  • Efficient and effective communication skills with key business partners.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in leading less experienced resources in large project work.
