About the position

As a Senior Business Intelligence and Analytics Engineer at AbbVie, you will be part of an inclusive and collaborative business technology team dedicated to driving digital transformation within a leading biopharma company. Your role will focus on leveraging your analytics expertise to provide impactful data insights that can influence business decisions and improve patient outcomes. You will be responsible for utilizing best-in-class business intelligence practices, including data modeling and dimensional modeling, to create solutions that address complex analytics challenges. In this position, you will work closely with business stakeholders to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies in data, enabling better decision-making processes. You will design and develop intuitive data visualizations that effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. Your ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams will be essential in delivering complex analytics solutions that meet business needs. You will also be tasked with developing curated datasets using tools like Dataiku or Alteryx, facilitating self-service analytics for business users. Establishing and adhering to BI and analytics best practices will be crucial, as will serving as a subject matter expert on the BI platform. You will manage multiple tasks efficiently, foster strong relationships with stakeholders, and deliver impactful presentations. Additionally, you will engage in requirement lifecycle management, including epic and story creation, change management, and user acceptance testing. Continuous learning and skill development in BI and analytics will be encouraged to keep pace with industry advancements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide impactful data insights to business stakeholders by discovering trends, patterns, and anomalies.
  • Design and develop intuitive data visualizations to communicate data findings effectively.
  • Collaborate with business and cross-functional teams to solve complex analytics problems.
  • Develop curated datasets using Dataiku or similar tools for self-service analytics.
  • Create semantic models adhering to metric governance standards.
  • Establish and follow BI and Analytics best practices, including peer and code reviews.
  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert on the BI platform and drive self-service initiatives.
  • Establish data and metric governance around curated datasets and metrics.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Foster strong relationships with key business stakeholders and clients.
  • Develop and deliver impactful presentations.
  • Perform requirement lifecycle management, including epic and story creation in Jira/Confluence.
  • Expand BI and Analytics skillset through research and continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field with 6+ years of relevant experience or master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in BI and Analytics, Data Visualization, and Data Discovery.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in writing complex SQL.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with BI and Data Visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau, and ThoughtSpot.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Data Prep tools like Dataiku or Alteryx.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in cloud data warehouses like Snowflake or Amazon Redshift.
  • Experience in Python or R programming languages.
  • Experience in running user training sessions and building a power user business community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical skills, and stakeholder engagement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Life Sciences Commercial Pharma, including insights into Sales Operations and marketing.
  • Consulting experience in the Business Intelligence and Analytics domain.
