About the position

The Senior Business Officer (SBO) at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) serves as the Chief Operating Officer, providing leadership and direction for the College's operations. The SBO is responsible for overseeing financial operations, space planning, grant administration, and information technology, ensuring alignment with the College's strategic goals. This role involves significant collaboration with senior leadership and requires a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Lead effective implementation and management of the College's operations.
  • Supervise the Director of Financial Operations and oversee a $225MM annual budget.
  • Partner with the CAS Sr. HR Director on strategic alignment and personnel matters.
  • Supervise the Director of College Facilities Planning for space utilization and planning.
  • Supervise the Director of Computing Operations for IT support and web development.
  • Provide leadership to academic administration and college operation unit Directors.
  • Serve as the College ombudsperson and assist in resolving sensitive issues.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of CAS's strategic objectives and initiatives.
  • Supervise assigned staff, monitor productivity, and promote staff training and development.
  • Ensure compliance with government rules and university policies regarding business operations.
  • Actively seek opportunities to innovate business practices and align with University objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting/finance, public administration, or related field.
  • Eight years of progressively responsible administrative experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with senior leadership teams and institutional stakeholders.
  • Effective interpersonal, business writing, and group facilitation communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to manage multiple projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in leading and managing others in policies and procedures.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures.
