About the position

The Senior Business Systems Analyst, Reporting & Analytics will lead the planning, design, and development of reporting and dashboarding processes/functionality for the university's ITS organization. This role will own requirements, conceptualize designs, and support core reporting and data visualization functions. The Senior Business Systems Analyst will lead collaborative efforts across a broad range of university partners and stakeholders including students, faculty, and staff. This position is crucial in effectively documenting requirements for reports and dashboards, creating reports and dashboards, developing design documentation, collaborating with functional and technical peers to develop reports and analytics, testing the effectiveness of developed solutions, and enabling adoption through training support. In addition, the Senior Business Systems Analyst will provide strategic insights and recommendations based on data analysis to drive informed decision-making and improve business outcomes. This role is designed to positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by enabling University stakeholders to effectively leverage data and insights in service of the institution's academic mission. The team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and development of reporting and dashboarding processes for the university's ITS organization.
  • Own requirements and conceptualize designs for reporting and data visualization functions.
  • Document requirements for reports and dashboards effectively.
  • Create reports and dashboards based on stakeholder needs.
  • Develop design documentation and collaborate with functional and technical peers to develop reports and analytics.
  • Test the effectiveness of developed solutions and enable adoption through training support.
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on data analysis to drive informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with a broad range of university partners and stakeholders including students, faculty, and staff.

Requirements

  • Five years experience working in information technology, data services, reporting, analytics, IT service management, or related field.
  • Extensive experience in conducting requirements gathering interviews or sessions, showcasing the ability to translate business needs into actionable requirements.
  • Experience with tools such as Tableau, IBM Cognos, IBM Cognos TM1, Oracle Reporting, or similar.
  • In-depth knowledge of methodologies associated with analyzing problems, information flow, and architecture, with a track record of applying these concepts to complex scenarios.
  • Proficient in data visualization and analytics techniques, with experience in designing business intelligence solutions that communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver end-to-end, user-centered processes by synthesizing stakeholder requirements and conducting comprehensive user research.
  • Expertise in the development of robust test strategies and plans using widely accepted test methodologies.
  • Strong proficiency in utilizing cutting-edge analytics tools to measure success and provide data-driven insights.
  • Ability to make efficient, logical decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate complex technical ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Able to establish and advance positive working relationships with a diverse community of colleagues.
  • Advanced organizational skills, ability to balance priorities and deliver concurrent projects.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills; ability to identify root problems and scope solutions based on knowledge of resources, timelines, vision and strategy.
  • Able to participate in activities to advance an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Thinks creatively and introduces innovations such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Seven or more years experience working in information technology, data services, reporting, analytics, IT service management.
