About the position

Crane Currency is seeking a Senior Buyer for MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) based in Dalton, MA. This role is pivotal in managing MRO/Indirect purchasing, inventory stores, and spare parts management, as well as Capital Project purchasing. The Senior Buyer will collaborate closely with teams involved in MRO tasks and projects, ensuring effective procurement and management of facility equipment, parts, and spares. A key responsibility will be to set and maintain appropriate spare part inventory levels and classifications, ensuring that the MRO spare parts stores and systems are managed effectively to support Crane's manufacturing processes. The Senior Buyer will oversee the management of MRO spare parts stores, ensuring improvements and sustainability through accurate inventories, correct categorization, and process enhancements. This includes conducting cycle counts, removing obsolete inventories, and continuously evaluating needs to support manufacturing processes, with a goal of achieving 100% on-time delivery and quality for customers. The role also involves evaluating and approving maintenance purchase requisitions for accuracy, supplier selection, and cost before placing purchase orders, ensuring that the correct parts are sourced according to specifications and quality requirements. In addition, the Senior Buyer will contribute expertise to facilities maintenance, engineering, and project teams, utilizing advanced sourcing, negotiation, and cost reduction techniques. The execution of global supply chain strategies will be essential to support Crane's objectives for material cost reduction, supplier delivery performance, lead-times, supplier quality, and inventory reduction. This includes rationalizing the supply base, increasing sourcing from low-cost sources, and negotiating and implementing Supplier Agreements as necessary. The role requires performing sourcing tasks to obtain competitive bids, analyzing costs, and negotiating contracts with suppliers based on total cost of ownership, while considering financial risks, quality standards, and delivery capabilities. The Senior Buyer will also be responsible for developing and maintaining MRO databases, analysis tools, and reports, auditing ongoing compliance and data accuracy. Participation in Kaizen events to eliminate waste and improve processes is also expected, along with performing global spend and value stream analysis to identify savings and process improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • 4+ years' experience in MRO procurement.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in multifunctional global teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects to completion.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen Leadership, 5S).
  • Strong knowledge of the supply chain with a focus on Indirect/MRO Purchasing.

Nice-to-haves

  • BA/BS degree in Supply Chain Management or Facilities Management.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification (black belt or green belt).
  • Certification in APICS and/or ISM.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
