About the position

Join our Danbury, CT team as a Senior Buyer responsible for purchasing commodities and major subcontract items. This position is hybrid, and the person selected must be within commutable distance of the office and able to work in the office at least 2 days per week. The Senior Buyer will generate and execute CPSR-compliant purchase orders based on approved requisitions, requests for proposals, bids, and other similar and necessary documents. This role requires effective communication as the point of contact (POC) between DRS and the supplier, ensuring that supplier performance is monitored and communicated, including conducting supplier visits as required. The Senior Buyer will also facilitate and manage supplier issues related to cost, quality, delivery, accounts payable, and customer service. Additionally, the role involves initiating and following through on supplier changes, such as Engineering Change Notices, and leading negotiations while applying knowledge of commercial contract law and guidelines to assess, plan, and negotiate the best terms and conditions to minimize risk. Tracking and reporting cost savings or avoidances, as well as maintaining current accurate records and files of all vendor agreements and related procurement records, are also key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and execute CPSR-compliant purchase orders based on approved requisitions, requests for proposals, bids, and other necessary documents.
  • Act as the point of contact (POC) between DRS and the supplier, communicating supplier performance and conducting supplier visits as required.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or a combination of education and at least 5 years of related purchasing experience.
  • An understanding of military specifications and the ability to read blueprints.
  • Knowledge of laws pertaining to procurement, contracts, and breach of contract.
  • A working knowledge of price and cost analysis as well as strong negotiating skills.
  • Candidates must be US citizens (no dual citizenship) and meet DRS security standards as imposed by DoD, including the issuance of any necessary security clearance by the US government within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
