About the position

We are GDIT, a global technology and professional services company that delivers consulting, technology, and mission services to every major agency across the U.S. government, defense, and intelligence community. We are currently seeking a Senior Datacomm Systems Administrator to join our team. This position is critical as you will serve as the primary database administrator for the Datacomm subsystems for the BFS mainframe. Your role will involve providing tuning and performance recommendations, configuring, maintaining, and supporting Datacomm applications. You will also provide technical assistance and production support to development teams for related issues and concerns. In this role, you will be responsible for providing Datacomm reporting and system information for auditing purposes, supporting Datacomm audit tools, including Solutionary and XBridge. Monitoring Datacomm performance and recommending tuning to improve performance will be a key part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will be responsible for third-party development tools from Compuware, installing and configuring Datacomm and related tools such as Insight and Catalog Manager. Your duties will also include ensuring recoverability by setting up proper backup utilities and procedures, production monitoring, performance analysis, and performance tuning, which includes improving indexing, rewriting SQL, and restructuring Datacomm objects. You will conduct database design reviews, implement database changes, and perform database recovery when necessitated by hardware or software failure. Providing guidance and support to application developers, participating in security audits, and monitoring application unit testing and system/load testing in development will also be part of your role.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary database administrator for the Datacomm subsystems for the BFS mainframe.

  • Schedule or run utilities to maintain optimal database organization for best performance.
  • Perform database recovery when necessitated by hardware or software failure.
  • Provide guidance and support to application developers and debugging expertise.
  • Participate in security audits and monitor application unit testing and system/load testing in development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of related experience in Datacomm administration.
  • Experience with Datacomm installation and configuration.
  • Experience with Datacomm tuning and performance recommendations.
  • Familiarity with Datacomm related tools such as Insight and Catalog Manager.
  • Experience in production support and problem resolution.
