About the position

The Senior Capital Oversight Risk Manager will serve as a subject matter expert in capital management processes, providing independent oversight and strategic risk advisory to senior executives and the Risk Committee of the Boards. This role involves assessing capital goals, defining risk appetite, and ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations while advocating for sound risk management practices throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic risk advisory to the Chief Risk Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer, and the Risk Committee of the Boards.
  • Assess capital goals, estimation methodologies/measurements, and underlying controls.
  • Define the respective capital risk appetite in coordination with Executive Management and ensure that Treasury is operating within it.
  • Advocate Truist's risk culture throughout the Capital Planning process; educate teammates on sound risk management practices.
  • Deliver a dynamic Capital Oversight Report to the Risk Committee of the Boards that outlines observations, conclusions, and risk-enhancing recommendations.
  • Conduct control testing of high-risk areas of the Capital Planning process while reviewing design and effectiveness.
  • Independently review balance sheet and income statement forecasted results for reasonableness.
  • Conduct regulatory mapping against the current Capital Planning environment to ensure compliance with supervisory expectations.
  • Review Basel reforms and U.S. risk-based capital rulemaking.
  • Ensure risk limits are consistent with the Corporation's stated Risk Appetite through definition or formal limit approval.
  • Represent the Risk Management Organization and engage with supervisory agencies through examinations and other activities.
  • Develop the firm-wide risk playbook, including all aspects of contingency planning.
  • Serve as a member of the firm's Capital Committee.

Requirements

  • Fifteen years of risk management experience in financial services including extensive experience in CCAR, forecasting, model risk management, credit administration, and loan policy.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills in discussing risk management with various management levels.
  • Knowledge and understanding of market dynamics, interest rates, accounting, and financial products.
  • Broad risk and regulatory knowledge.
  • Superior ability to think strategically, multi-task, and drive change.
  • Strong quantitative, governance, and analytic abilities.
  • Ability to make decisive and quick decisions; embraces challenges and change.
  • Executive and board level presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • More than 15 years of risk management experience in financial services or related field.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or advanced degree in Business Management or Finance.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, including the ability to translate risk management framework objectives into actionable tasks.
  • Ability to forge strong, trusting relationships with Executive Management and Senior Leadership.
  • FRM/CFA or equivalent advanced risk certification (or relevant Advanced Degree).
  • Experience working with supervisory agencies and representing firms in supervision examinations.
