About the position

The Senior Cartographer at ManTech International is responsible for evaluating and producing maritime data packages using various sources, including nautical charts and hydrographic survey data. This role involves advanced feature extraction, data compilation, and the use of ArcGIS for cartographic production, contributing to national security projects.

Responsibilities

  • Source evaluation of rasterized nautical charts, ENC, digital hydrographic survey data, Notices to Mariners (NtM), orthorectified imagery, and chart catalogs to produce project packages.
  • Compile or update maritime features and attributes for the SFH DNC/ENC portfolio using ArcGIS based Data Capture and Finishing Environment (DCAFE) workstations.
  • Extract features from various sources including rasterized nautical charts and digital hydrographic survey data.
  • Write Python scripts in ArcGIS to improve the efficiency of the production process.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years of combined experience in feature data extraction and attribution process.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience using ESRI ArcGIS and Production Mapping.
  • Advanced knowledge of coordinate systems (latitude and longitude, UTM) and map projections.
  • Advanced knowledge of symbolization rules and Arc VST.
  • Experience in collecting data from rasterized sources and proper rectifying of the source.
  • Advanced experience working with geospatial data in a multi-user enterprise environment.
  • Experience in team leadership and ability to support and train less experienced team members.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 years of experience in cartographic finishing and feature extraction from maps or charts.
  • Knowledge of NGA products and services.
  • Experience with maritime navigation data and products.
  • Experience editing or managing data in an ArcGIS Portal environment.
  • Experience converting data in multiple formats, especially MILSPEC, S-57, and shapefiles.
  • Knowledge of cartographic generalization rules.
