About the position

As a Senior Cell Test Engineer at Symbotic, you will play a crucial role in our System Test team within the Core Hardware Engineering organization. Your primary responsibility will be to establish innovative designs that stimulate and measure the performance of our cell automation systems. This position requires a strong background in hardware and industrial controls software, as you will be implementing solutions that support code verification, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of Symbotic products. You will work closely with our Industrial Controls and Hardware Engineering teams, developing your expertise in testing solutions and ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability in our warehouse automation systems. The System Test organization is dedicated to validating the performance of Symbotic's automation systems, which are already in use by some of the nation's largest retailers. You will be involved in all aspects of test planning and execution, from early-stage new product development to continuous improvement of existing products. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency, speed, and flexibility of our operations, as you will be responsible for creating and executing verification tests for Rockwell PLC Add-On-Instruction (AOI) code releases and regression tests for system hardware components. Additionally, you will support the advancement of our Industrial Controls Lab and the electrical and PLC controls needs in our Innovation Test Center (ITC). In this role, you will author comprehensive test specifications, collect and analyze product performance data, and participate in root cause analysis to address customer performance issues or warranty claims. You will work cross-functionally to identify and resolve systemic design and manufacturing issues, serving as an escalation point for troubleshooting and repairing non-conforming products. This position may require travel up to 10% for customer site visits, allowing you to engage directly with our clients and understand their needs better.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute verification tests for Rockwell PLC Add-On-Instruction (AOI) code releases and regression test bug fixes for system hardware components.
  • Support and advance the capability of our Industrial Controls Lab to automate testing.
  • Support the electrical and PLC controls needs in our Innovation Test Center (ITC).
  • Author comprehensive test specifications to guide test initiatives in collaboration with development partners and contract manufacturers.
  • Collect and analyze product performance data to refine test criteria and improve test methods.
  • Participate in root cause analysis to address customer performance issues or warranty claims.
  • Work cross functionally to identify and resolve systemic design and manufacturing issues.
  • Be an escalation point for troubleshooting and repairing non-conforming products.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical, Computer Science, Automation, Robotics or other related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience working with industrial control and automation systems with a high degree of hardware and software complexity.
  • Strong technical background with the Rockwell platform.
  • Experience with industrial robotics, vision systems, and remote IO, VFDs and servo systems.
  • Experience with networking controls systems and distributed controls systems on Ethernet IP.
  • Schematic design experience with CAD, AutoCad Electrical preferred.
