About the position

This position involves responsible work in program direction, coordination, and implementation at a multipurpose senior activity center for mature adults. The role supports the daily operations of the center, including planning and overseeing various activities, publicizing events, and assisting participants. It requires maintaining records, performing data collection, and providing information about programs and services to seniors and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations of the senior activity center.
  • Plan, implement, oversee, and coordinate health, educational, recreational, and nutrition activities.
  • Publicize center classes and special events.
  • Assist participants with registering for classes and events.
  • Provide information about programs and services to seniors and the general public.
  • Maintain records and perform data collection and data entry for required reports.
  • Recruit, motivate, and direct center volunteers.
  • Respond to inquiries about services and make referrals to other programs as necessary.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and community outreach events.
  • Provide coverage at other senior activity centers as needed.
  • Set up the center's meal service program, including recruiting and training volunteers.
  • Act as a liaison between senior activity center committees and other community organizations.
  • Provide backup to Senior Center Lead Coordinator as needed.
  • Identify maintenance issues and contact appropriate staff for assistance.
  • Provide administrative assistance at the main office as needed.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of physical and psychological changes associated with aging.
  • Knowledge of senior activity and social interests.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct a diversified program of activities for older adults.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships and communicate effectively with the public, seniors, and staff.
  • Ability to coordinate, train, and supervise staff and volunteers.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to learn and apply County and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Physical ability to perform active work, including lifting and moving equipment.

Nice-to-haves
