About the position

As a Senior Channel Applications Engineer at ABB, you will play a pivotal role in the design authority for engineering projects related to Motion Drive Products in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Your primary focus will be on enhancing customer satisfaction through excellent service and technical recommendations. This position requires a deep understanding of ABB's Low Voltage (LV) drive and PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) / HMI (Human Machine Interface) products, as well as their applications in various industrial processes and systems. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical sales execution to the channel team, channel partners, technical support, product engineering, and end customers. Your expertise will be crucial in addressing application issues related to LV drives and PLC/HMI products. You will prioritize, schedule, and delegate work assignments to ensure timely and accurate support, while also designing and recommending tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of customers. Your ability to negotiate deviations and identify new functional solutions will be essential in contributing to specifications and addressing current business challenges. You will also be expected to create detailed technical reports on product issues, manage customer relationships during the correction process, and interface with OEM Application Engineers to collaborate on relevant systems and solutions. Your commitment to customer satisfaction and your ability to systematically follow up on business opportunities will be key to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize, schedule, and delegate work assignments to ensure timely and accurate support for the application of ABB PLC/HMIs and LV drives.
  • Design and recommend tailored solutions based on a deep knowledge of the portfolio and capabilities to meet customers' unique needs.
  • Contribute to specification by negotiating deviations and agreeing on win-win solutions.
  • Advise others on the delivery of high-quality solutions by applying broad and deep professional expertise.
  • Continuously aim to meet targets even in difficult circumstances with value argumentation.
  • Identify and systematically follow up on business opportunities.
  • Focus energy on key tasks and take extra measures to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Address PLC/HMI motor application problems and initiate effective measures for their solution.
  • Create detailed technical reports on product issues that need correction by other departments and manage customer relationships during the correction process.
  • Interface with OEM Application Engineers to collaborate on systems and solutions relevant to OEM needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred) and 8 years' experience in the application of Low Voltage drive required.
  • Exceptional technical application and technical communication skills.
  • Understanding of Serial and Ethernet communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, etc.).
  • Programming experience in industrial PLCs (ABB, Rockwell, Siemens, Square D, or others).
  • Basic understanding of Compressors, Pump & Fan, Extruder, Crane, Hoists & Winches, Centrifuge, General Machinery and other applications.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, vendors, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
