About the position

The Senior Chaplain at Madison Correctional Institution is responsible for overseeing the Chaplaincy Services Program, ensuring the spiritual needs of the inmate population are met through various religious activities, pastoral care, and administrative functions. This role involves planning and supervising worship opportunities, providing support during personal crises, and managing volunteer participation in the chapel program.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, schedule, and supervise a comprehensive Chaplaincy Services Program for inmates.
• Provide pastoral care through personal interviews in various settings, addressing inmates' spiritual and personal needs.
• Perform routine administrative functions such as scheduling inmate callouts and processing marriage requests.
• Recruit, train, and supervise citizen volunteers for the Chapel program.
• Ensure inmates can observe holy days of obligation and arrange necessary accommodations.
• Conduct weekly tours of inmate housing and recreation areas.
• Provide religious orientation for new inmates.
• Keep relevant authorities informed about ongoing and upcoming programs.
• Discuss programs with department heads to secure cooperation and support.
• Administer the budget for the Chaplaincy department and ensure compliance with standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in theology, religion, education, or social/behavioral sciences, or four years of professional experience as a clergyperson.
• Ordination or formal investment with ministerial or priestly authority from an ecclesiastical body.
• Current written approbation and endorsement from the appropriate official of the ecclesiastical body.
