About the position

The Senior Chemical Engineer position focuses on carbon capture technology within the Energy & Industrial Group. The role involves leading multi-disciplined project teams to evaluate and design carbon capture projects, analyze technical issues, and ensure compliance with industry standards. The engineer will also engage in project development activities and support the Carbon Capture Development team, contributing to the advancement of sustainable energy solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and review the design of carbon capture projects for energy and industrial markets, focusing on process design and performance.
  • Analyze technical issues and oversee the preparation of system specification data, mass and heat balances, and presentations of findings.
  • Independently verify the design of vendor-supplied equipment.
  • Review and contribute to complex technical reports and presentations.
  • Support the Carbon Capture Development team in providing consistency and oversight across projects.
  • Engage in project development activities for carbon capture projects, including consulting on strategy and developing proposals.
  • Establish work priorities for multiple projects and respond to requests from supervisors and project managers.
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge of industry standards, system design, and new technology developments.
  • Participate in industry code committees and conferences.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with a strong academic background.
  • Ten or more years of experience in carbon capture or related fields in power or industrial sectors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact and multitask with project team members and clients.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and coordinate inputs between teams and clients.
  • Ability to provide guidance to younger staff members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer designation or completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Familiarity with major federal environmental regulatory programs such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
