About the position

The Senior Chemical Process Engineer at ExxonMobil plays a crucial role in enhancing the performance of chemical manufacturing plants. This position involves leading improvements in safety, production, and reliability while collaborating with various teams. The engineer will serve as a technical resource, providing expertise in complex processes and mentoring less experienced engineers. The role requires strategic thinking, effective execution, and the ability to influence without direct authority.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical leader on the business team by mentoring less experienced engineers on design practices, unit health monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide off-hours support of abnormal and non-routine operations, including unit Turnarounds.
  • Aid in the development of long-term vision and strategy for product line improvements.
  • Organize and design plant testing and product trials.
  • Serve as a senior resource working with supervisors to set clear objectives and ensure priorities are aligned for the technical team.
  • Influence others and drive toward solutions without direct authority.
  • Work in a team environment with other engineering disciplines, operations, and mechanical personnel, interfacing with corporate technology support.
  • Interface with 3rd party vendors for cost optimizations and developing/driving solutions.
  • Lead Hazard and Operability Reviews (HAZOPs) and Risk Assessments, developing closure plans and strategies for identified risks.
  • Lead/support incident investigations as technical lead.
  • Provide support for developing and implementing various capital projects to drive margin or mitigate SHE risk.
  • Assist in the field during plant startups, shutdowns, or upsets.
  • Demonstrate courage of conviction to drive healthy tension for both business team and corporate technology support.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in Chemical Engineering plant with technical fuels/chemicals manufacturing roles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Process design experience
  • Familiarity with advanced control strategies/optimization software
  • Working knowledge of RBI practices (corrosion damage mechanisms/mitigations, saltation, etc)
  • Risk assessment and HAZOP experience
  • Understanding of safety relief limits (modelling and evaluations)
  • Demonstrated understanding of modelling software (PROII, ASPEN, etc)
  • Kinetic Modelling (SOL, KBC Profimatics, etc)
