About the position

The Senior Chemist & Chemical Engineer position at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory involves providing support for reactor plant chemistry and cleanliness issues across the entire nuclear fleet. This role is integral to ensuring the safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors, contributing to the training of U.S. Navy personnel, and fostering a collaborative work environment that values trust and empowerment.

Responsibilities

• Perform trials, tests, and/or experiments to support engineering, production, and/or R&D activities.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources such as experiments and studies.
• Develop technically and economically sound recommendations and prepare comprehensive documented observations, analyses, and interpretations of results.
• Establish operating equipment specifications.
• Develop and recommend new processes and technologies to achieve cost effectiveness and improved product quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or
• Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or
• Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or
• EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
• 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or
• SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.
