About The Position

The Senior Chemist at Stryker will play a crucial role in supporting new product development and enhancing existing medical devices through analytical chemistry testing. This position involves day-to-day lab activities, coordination of maintenance, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure project timelines are met. The Senior Chemist will also be responsible for interpreting test data, maintaining communication with internal customers, and training junior scientists.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemistry/Biochemistry or related field with 2+ years of experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical, or chemical industry, or MS in Chemistry/Biochemistry or related field with 1+ years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Documentation Practice (GDP).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage day-to-day activities within a chemistry lab.
  • Knowledge of cGLP, cGMP, ANSI, AAMI, ISO, FDA, EPA, and USP guidelines for residual chemical analysis for medical devices.
  • Effective communication, project management, and influencing skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong formal presentation and analytical skills.
  • Scientific and technical writing and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support new product development and changes to medical devices through analytical chemistry testing.
  • Coordinate day-to-day lab activities including preventative maintenance, calibration, purchasing, lab metrics, and sample organization.
  • Conduct analysis using FTIR, ICP-MS, XRF, UV Vis, and TOC among other laboratory equipment.
  • Own departmental initiatives including setting timelines and milestones.
  • Interpret, evaluate, and report test data.
  • Maintain communications with internal customers on chemical analysis.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Present lab KPIs to management and cross-functional partners.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to local procedures and contribute to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
  • Conduct root cause analysis, equipment troubleshooting, and out-of-specification investigations.
  • Own validation activities within the lab.
  • Train junior scientists and other functions in analytical chemistry.
