About the position

The Senior Child Development Specialist plays a crucial role in determining eligibility for the Birth to Three Regional Program, focusing on infant and toddler disabilities. This position involves educating and training families to address developmental issues, preparing reports, and providing case management as part of the Clinical Eligibility Team. The specialist is responsible for conducting assessments, implementing therapy programs, and collaborating with community resources to enhance the well-being of children and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct developmental assessments on preschool handicapped and developmentally delayed children to determine the nature and extent of disabilities.
  • Plan, develop, and implement individual and group instructional therapy programs; conduct reassessments to monitor progress.
  • Educate, counsel, and train families to effectively manage handicapping conditions, including making home visits.
  • Prepare assessment reports, therapy progress summaries, and individual child service programs.
  • Consult with staff professionals to integrate services and contribute expertise in early childhood and special education.
  • Plan and conduct parent education programs and professional workshops.
  • Participate in community service meetings to identify children's needs and determine appropriate educational placements.
  • Provide technical guidance to lower-level staff.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Speech Pathology, or a related field.
  • Six months experience in conducting developmental assessments on handicapped and developmentally delayed children.
  • Six months experience in case management, including assessing, planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating services.
  • Six months experience in planning, developing, and implementing educational, promotional, or recreational programs.
  • Six months experience in narrative report writing.
