About the position

AECOM is actively seeking a motivated Senior Civil Engineer to join our Environmental Business Line in the Richmond, VA office, working on rewarding projects within a diverse culture, and having access to exceptional training and career development opportunities. In this role, you will work with a diverse team of technical experts to deliver remediation services to our clients in the Power sector market. You will support the design of various solid waste disposal facilities, earthen dams, and other civil, geotechnical, and remediation projects. Experience with Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) impoundments or landfills is strongly preferred. The candidate should have ten years of relevant experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on site remediation, solid waste management, or other large civil projects. The Leadership team is searching for candidates with experience in the CCR market that are a leader and role model, client-focused, impactful, and decisive. The job responsibilities for the position will include but are not limited to serving as lead directing engineer on mid- to large size projects, providing specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise, approving and signing off on work, providing technical expertise for studies and design efforts, presenting complex technical solutions to clients, performing quality control reviews of work developed by others, participating in the development of technical proposals, providing estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects, and maintaining existing client relationships and contracts by successful project delivery. You will also develop new clients and grow the CCR and Geotechnical practice state and region wide, serve as a project manager and program manager, attend client meetings and coordinate with diverse project teams, and participate in national organizations, as appropriate on behalf of AECOM.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as lead directing engineer on mid- to large size projects.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Approves and signs off on work.
  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients.
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.
  • Participates in development of technical proposals.
  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.
  • Provide technical leadership in the areas of CCR ash basin closure, landfill design and related regulatory, planning, design and construction phase projects.
  • Maintain existing client relationships and contracts by successful project delivery.
  • Develop new clients and grow the CCR and Geotechnical practice state and region wide.
  • Serve as a project manager and program manager.
  • Attend client meetings and coordinate with diverse project teams.
  • Participate in national organizations, as appropriate on behalf of AECOM.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering + 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain through comity.
  • Master's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (preferred).
  • 11+ years of progressive engineering, project management, Civil design, CCR or Geotechnical Engineering projects related to solid waste disposal, CCR management, dams and impoundments (preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication and the ability to work with groups across disciplines and offices.
  • Experience preparing reports, conducting engineering analyses and calculations, overseeing the preparation of engineering design documents such as drawings and technical specifications.
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as HCS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models, and stormwater management design software such as HydroCAD).
  • Experience training and leading engineers and scientists in the completion of civil projects.
  • Project Management experience for utility clients or other industrial or private sector clients.
  • Experience with Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) impoundments or landfills.
