About the position

McMillen is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer - Fish Hatcheries to join our dynamic team of engineers specializing in civil, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural disciplines. This role is pivotal in the design and execution of various water resource and fisheries-related projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the design of fish collection facilities, fish passage systems, fish screening, acclimation facilities, pump stations, and aquaculture water treatment systems. The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for the civil design aspects of these facilities, ensuring that all projects are delivered safely, within scope, budget, and schedule. This position requires maintaining proactive and professional communication with clients, stakeholders, and the design team throughout the project lifecycle. The preferred locations for this position include Seattle, Boise, Denver, Sacramento, or Portland; however, we are open to considering remote or hybrid work arrangements based on the candidate's experience. The successful candidate will be expected to lead a cross-discipline team of engineers, perform civil engineering design focused on fisheries-related infrastructure applications, and conduct site investigations and inspections. Detailed assessment reports of conditions will also be a key responsibility, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary regulatory and environmental standards. Responsibilities

  • Perform civil engineering design with a focus on fisheries related infrastructure applications, including hatcheries, upstream and downstream fish passage, stream restoration, fish collection facilities and other water resource facilities.
  • Lead a cross-discipline team of engineers to design fish hatcheries and water resources structures.
  • Perform site investigations and/or inspections and provide detailed assessment reports of conditions.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Maintain professional and proactive communications with clients, stakeholders, and the design team.

Requirements

  • 12-15 years of experience in aquaculture engineering or hatchery design.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices related to fisheries and water resources.
  • Experience with the design of fish collection facilities, fish passage, fish screening, acclimation facilities, pump stations, and aquaculture water treatment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with regulatory compliance and environmental assessments related to water resource projects.
  • Familiarity with project management software and tools.
