About the position

The Senior Civil Engineer at Dennis Group is responsible for the design and development of land and infrastructure for industrial projects, particularly in the food and beverage sector. This role requires strong technical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to collaborate with structural engineers and architects. The engineer will handle various tasks from project documentation to construction administration, ensuring that projects meet design specifications and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment
  • Performs moderate design tasks, receiving guidance on unconventional or complex problems
  • Prepares partial to complete project documentation, including complete CAD drawings
  • Performs procurement tasks such as bid list development and preliminary bid evaluation
  • Has understanding of discipline-specific plan elements and navigates a set of drawings
  • Performs construction administration tasks including complex submittal review
  • Responds to RFIs
  • Develops site basis of design document
  • Edits project specifications
  • Develops parking lot layout that satisfies development ordinances and regulations
  • Analyzes and designs institutional, industrial, and commercial building sites
  • Reviews historical site drawings to align site objectives with existing conditions
  • Understands pavement materials and designs pavement sections
  • Determines land use characteristics and assigns runoff coefficients
  • Calculates times of concentrations and performs pre-development hydrologic analysis
  • Delineates complex watersheds and models watershed
  • Develops design approach for site factoring in topography and drainage conditions
  • Designs detention ponds and outlet control structures
  • Advances site grading using Civil 3D
  • Conducts trust restraint calculations for pressure systems
  • Understands BMPs for EPSC
  • Prepares storm drainage reports and engineering calculations
  • Prepares land development plans, site grading, utility, and drainage design for food and beverage processing facilities
  • Reviews drawings and coordinates the project team
  • Prepares bid packages and provides construction administration
  • Visits project sites to observe field conditions
  • Evaluates design constraints and resolves problems
  • Researches civil engineering materials and best practices
  • Supports talent growth within the organization
  • Provides coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in civil engineering tasks involving industrial construction projects
  • 7+ years of experience in drainage, grading, and utility design for industrial or commercial projects
  • 7+ years of experience in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed (15 days a year)
  • License: EIT
