About the position

Hatch is seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer to join our Earth Sciences and Engineering (ESE) group in Houston, TX. This position is integral to supporting the Civil Engineering team in various projects related to earthworks, green infrastructure, stormwater management, site grading, drainage, and bioengineering. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the completion of assigned projects, collaborating closely with project managers and multi-discipline design leads to deliver high-quality work. The Civil Engineer will be responsible for completing stormwater and design calculations for linear infrastructure and utilities, preparing technical specifications for civil works, and overseeing the preparation of detailed civil engineering drawings and specifications. Quality control is a significant aspect of this role, which includes checking and verifying drawings and calculations. Additionally, the Civil Engineer will have the opportunity to mentor young engineers, fostering their development and ensuring the team’s success. This position may require travel to project sites and other offices as necessary, providing a dynamic work environment where the engineer can engage with various aspects of civil engineering projects. Responsibilities

  • Supporting the civil project team through to completion of assigned projects in areas of earthworks, green infrastructure, stormwater management for urban and industrial sites, site grading and drainage, and bioengineering.
  • Completing stormwater and design calculations for linear infrastructure and utilities.
  • Preparing technical specifications for civil works.
  • Overseeing preparation of detailed civil engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Working collaboratively with project managers and multi-discipline design leads.
  • Conducting quality control - drawing and calculations checking and verification.
  • Mentoring young engineers.
  • Traveling to site and other offices when necessary.

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized engineering university.
  • 6-10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas.
  • Thorough understanding of the design process including the application of civil design software packages.
  • Familiarity with reading terrain maps/models and contours.
  • Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately.
  • Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivated, quick to deliver, and a team player.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Leadership skills to guide and lead a team of engineers and designers to deliver high-quality work.
  • Good communication skills to coordinate and communicate with multi-discipline teams and clients.
