About the position

The Senior Civil Engineer at Arup will play a crucial role in leading various site development and civil infrastructure projects. This position emphasizes socially responsible work, allowing the engineer to contribute meaningfully to the community and clients while fostering a collaborative environment. The role involves overseeing design processes, coordinating with multiple disciplines, and mentoring junior staff, all while ensuring adherence to sustainable design practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of site development, utilities, roadway, drainage and other key elements of civil engineering projects
• Oversee the production of design documents and lead a team of civil engineers on various projects
• Work with local agencies to understand land use and permit processes
• Coordinate with associated disciplines including SMEP, architecture, landscape architecture, geotechnical engineering, transportation planning, urban planning, environmental engineering, and cost engineering
• Perform construction phase engineering support and site supervision
• Participate in proposal writing and marketing activities
• Develop relationships with existing clients and project collaborators
• Present technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences
• Mentor staff and provide training to junior technical staff

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master's Degree preferred
• California Professional Engineering license preferred
• 6+ years of experience in civil engineering/site development
• Knowledge of core civil engineering fundamentals such as hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, low impact development, utility design, grading and earthwork, roadway and geometric alignments, and accessibility standards
• Working knowledge of civil engineering design and analysis software, particularly AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Experience managing project delivery and interfacing with contractors, project owners, and outside consultants
• A commitment to sustainable design practices
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to build consensus among clients and teammates
