About the position

The Senior Civil Engineer will play a crucial role in the design and execution of commercial and multifamily residential projects. This position involves working as part of a design team and directly under licensed Engineers to ensure that site-civil designs align with project objectives, schedules, and budgets. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing engineering tasks in the site/civil engineering field, which includes developing a comprehensive understanding of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards, and processes relevant to the projects at hand. In this role, the engineer will demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, showcasing flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment. Responsibilities will include conducting site visits, gathering data, reviewing and interpreting existing site plans, survey mapping, and ensuring compliance with agency regulations. The engineer will assist project managers and engineers in the design of grading, earthwork analysis, and stormwater management systems, contributing to the overall success of the projects. The ideal candidate must possess a deep knowledge of site civil design, permitting processes, and construction plan preparation. Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D is essential for creating detailed design plans. Additionally, the engineer will prepare cost estimates and specifications based on design drawings and will be responsible for drafting written correspondence, including proposals, Site Investigation Reports, Grading and Drainage Reports, and paving assessments. A commitment to continuous learning is vital, as the successful applicant will be expected to expand their knowledge through in-house training and self-directed study. Collaboration within the design team is key, as the engineer will develop site plans using AutoCAD, focusing on grading, green infrastructure, trail and pedestrian facilities, erosion and sediment control plans, utility distribution systems, potable water system design, sanitary sewer design, and stormwater management system design, along with the necessary calculations and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering tasks in the site/civil engineering field.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently while adapting to changing environments.
  • Conduct site visits and investigations, collecting data and reviewing site plans and survey mapping.
  • Assist project managers/engineers with grading, earthwork analysis, and stormwater management designs.
  • Prepare cost estimates and specifications based on design drawings.
  • Draft written correspondence including proposals, Site Investigation Reports, and Grading and Drainage Reports.
  • Expand knowledge base through in-house training and self-training.
  • Collaborate within a design team to develop site plans using AutoCAD.
  • Prepare associated calculations and spreadsheets.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of site civil design, permitting, and construction plan preparation.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D for creating design plans and details.
  • Ability to perform site visits and data collection effectively.
  • Experience in preparing cost estimates and specifications based on design drawings.
