About the position

The Manhattan Beach Public Works Department is seeking a highly qualified Senior Civil Engineer to join our dedicated team. This role is pivotal in planning, coordinating, and participating in various engineering projects that contribute to the development and maintenance of our vibrant beach town community. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will function as a Project Manager, overseeing capital improvement projects from their initial concept through to completion and close-out. This position requires minimal supervision, allowing you to take the lead on significant projects that impact the community directly. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing and completing assigned engineering projects, programs, and activities. You will work closely with other professionals in the department, ensuring that all projects meet the required standards and are completed on time and within budget. Your expertise will be essential in navigating the complexities of civil engineering within a public sector context, and you will be expected to perform other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and participate in various engineering projects for the City.
• Function as a Project Manager for capital improvement projects from concept to close-out.
• Implement and complete assigned engineering projects, programs, and activities.
• Ensure projects meet required standards and are completed on time and within budget.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in civil engineering or a closely related field.
• Three (3) years of responsible professional experience in civil engineering or a related field.
• Valid License or Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.
• Public sector experience is highly desirable.
• If the P.E. Certificate/License is from another state, obtain a P.E. Certificate/License from the State of California within three (3) years of employment.
