About the position

Michael Baker International is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer with experience in UFC-based projects, particularly with NAVFAC and other DoD agencies. The role focuses on supporting the federal team in Virginia Beach with project delivery, contract pursuits, and local land development. The candidate will lead project activities, ensuring goals are met on time and within budget, while also providing comprehensive design assignments using Civil 3D and related software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage projects and proposals to meet client and regulatory needs.
  • Work closely with clients and regulatory agencies as part of a multi-discipline team.
  • Develop project scope of work documents and project plans that include analysis of benefits, costs, work schedules, and related risks.
  • Lead design team in developing project drawings, technical specifications, schedules, and bid tabs.
  • Monitor and communicate project-related issues, scope changes, variances, and contingencies during construction.
  • Develop innovative and cost-effective solutions to construction-related conflicts and RFIs.
  • Meet with and effectively communicate with project partners, stakeholders, and the public to maintain strong relationships.
  • Mentor junior staff and manage project teams by providing technical advice and assisting in problem-solving at an advanced level.
  • Coordinate project activities with government regulatory or other agencies.

Requirements

  • A 4-year or advanced degree in civil engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience preferred.
  • Documented experience in the design and management of federal (UFC based) projects or in delivery of civil engineering design for federal contracts.
  • Experience with NAVFAC ATLANTIC, NAVFAC Washington or MIDLANT is considered highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with permit application development and coordination for federal, state, and local agencies.
