About the position

As a Senior Civil Engineer at Westinghouse Electric, you will play a crucial role in supporting civil and structural design activities. This includes evaluating various structural systems such as steel members, reinforced concrete, and composite steel. You will be responsible for addressing and resolving technical issues related to the design of building structures, as well as handling technical challenges that arise during the fabrication, assembly, and construction phases of civil and structural projects. This may involve providing technical justification for design changes and troubleshooting emergent technical issues as they occur. Your role will also require on-site support at various utilities, sites, and smaller projects when necessary. You will utilize analytical tools such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and GTSTRUDL, and aid in maintaining software compliance records while ensuring the closure of engineering corrective actions. Familiarity with applicable industry civil and structural codes and standards, such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, and AWS, along with company policies and procedures, will be essential. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing engineering sketches and markups using AutoCAD or similar CAD programs, and generating engineering documentation including design change proposals, document revisions, and new document and drawing generation.

Responsibilities

  • Support civil/structural design activities including evaluation of various structural systems.
  • Address and resolve technical issues related to the design of building structures.
  • Handle technical issues related to the fabrication, assembly, and construction phases of civil/structural projects.
  • Provide on-site support at various utilities, sites, and smaller projects as required.
  • Utilize analytical tools such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and GTSTRUDL.
  • Aid in the maintenance of software compliance records and closure of engineering corrective actions.
  • Become familiar with applicable industry civil/structural codes and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • At least 4 years of experience in civil/structural evaluations.
  • Prior industry experience in the nuclear industry is a plus.
  • FE/EIT certification preferred.
  • PE certification or plan to obtain PE is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in civil/structural evaluations is preferred.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry is a plus.
