About the position

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to support the Design Engineering Department in North Las Vegas. This role is critical in providing designs for the Infrastructure Directorate, which encompasses the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) facilities, site planning, reconfiguration of facilities, and supporting corrective action dispositions. The Senior Civil Engineer will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in their field, contributing to the planning, design, and construction phases of various engineering projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating designs related to water distribution systems, sewage collection, grading and drainage, site flood studies, and pavement evaluation. They will also be tasked with reviewing the accuracy of design calculations and specifications, formulating solutions to complex technical problems, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams including structural, electrical, and mechanical engineers, as well as architects and construction professionals. The role requires a disciplined approach to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and MSTS policies and procedures. This position involves periodic site visits for project support and requires the ability to coordinate with other project team members effectively. The work schedule is structured as 4/10's, Monday through Thursday, and the primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Candidates must be prepared for a pre-placement physical examination, including a drug screen, and must possess a valid driver's license. Additionally, applicants will undergo a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information, which necessitates U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate Civil Engineering and multi-disciplined team/design projects.
  • Generate designs related to water distribution systems, sewage collection, grading and drainage, site flood studies, and pavement evaluation.
  • Generate and review the accuracy of design/evaluation calculations and specifications.
  • Formulate solutions to highly complex technical problems of broad scope.
  • Serve as an internal SME in Civil Engineering.
  • Conduct construction document reviews.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including structural, electrical, and mechanical disciplines, architects, surveyors, and construction professionals.
  • Serve as lead on teams requiring coordination with other teams.
  • Execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees.
  • Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB) for Architects.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • At least 5 years' relevant experience in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Ability to interpret codes and standards applicable to the position.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office Suite, Flowmaster, CulvertMaster, and Hydrologic Engineering Centers River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) preferred.
  • Familiarity with MicroStation/InRoads computer aided drafting applications.
  • Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
