About the position

Parsons is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in New York City. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all work produced adheres to applicable codes, standards, and procedures while maintaining high-quality standards. You will monitor the productivity and technical proficiency of assigned personnel, ensuring that all engineering computations, designs, and validations are completed accurately. Your expertise will be crucial in reviewing and preparing design drawings and specifications, ensuring their completeness and accuracy. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will engage in the review of civil elements using AutoCAD Civil3D or Navisworks 3D models, focusing on functionality, egress, maintenance requirements, and constructability. You will also be responsible for reviewing and approving related component submittals in coordination with Operations and Maintenance (O&M) staff. Providing technical guidance to CAD Designers, Drafters, and lower-level Engineers will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will the review and validation of construction Requests for Information (RFIs) and shop drawings. Field engineering quality assurance during construction and commissioning support will also be part of your duties. You will complete a variety of assignments, including drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes, frequently interfacing with other engineering disciplines. This position may also involve other responsibilities as appropriate, contributing to the overall success of the projects you are involved in.

Responsibilities

  • Review work produced to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures, and maintain quality standards.
  • Monitor productivity and technical proficiency of assigned personnel.
  • Review and prepare design drawings and specifications for completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare engineering computations, design, and validation of engineering calculations.
  • Review civil elements in AutoCAD Civil3D or Navisworks 3D model for functionality, egress, maintenance requirements, and constructability.
  • Review and approve related component submittals in coordination with O&M staff.
  • Provide technical guidance to CAD Designers, Drafters, and lower-level Engineers on the same project.
  • Review and validate construction RFI responses.
  • Review and approve shop drawings and construction models.
  • Conduct field engineering QA during construction and provide commissioning support.
  • Complete a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of design practices including specifications, codes, building materials and costs, and construction techniques.
  • Working knowledge of applicable standards, municipalities, and local jurisdiction guidelines.
  • Experience in facility system design and preparation of civil design, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Good organizational and communication skills, with the ability to express ideas clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Accept responsibility for own actions and honor commitments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client offices, other Parsons offices, and project sites for meetings and inspections.
  • Proficient in using office personal computers and Microsoft Office software suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of analysis software such as WaterCAD, Civil3D, GIS, or equivalents.
  • FE/EIT certification is required; active professional engineers (PE) license is preferred.
