As a Senior Civil Engineer specializing in Site Development, you will be an integral part of the Civil team for Site Development and Utilities projects based in Washington DC, Fairfax VA, Towson MD, or Richmond VA. In this role, you will take on a leadership position within the engineering team, providing engineering and design services to clients while coordinating with engineers, project managers, clients, and other disciplines to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget. You will also be responsible for training and mentoring junior staff, managing the workload for the team, and leading the engineering and production team through the planning and design of civil engineering projects. Your responsibilities will include working closely with the Vice President of Operations to manage an engineering team in the Mid-Atlantic Sector, identifying and qualifying RFP/RFQ's for upcoming projects, leading submittals in response to RFP/RFQ's, and managing existing and developing new client relationships. You will supervise the overall direction, coordination, and management of the engineering team, including hiring, training, and daily functions. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing daily plan production, schedules, budgets, quality control/assurance, collections, and opportunities. Engaging, mentoring, and motivating junior staff will be a key part of your role, as well as planning and coordinating the preparation of documents for multiple major projects. You will execute project contracts, develop internal staff, and conduct QA/QC reviews of all calculations and designs by staff, providing guidance and mentoring as needed. As the lead Project Manager on major municipal projects, you will assist in developing processes to achieve operational excellence while growing the region and office. You will also keep informed of new methods and developments affecting the organization and recommend new practices or changes in emphasis of programs. Representing the organization and maintaining liaison with individuals and related organizations will be essential, as will applying your knowledge and expertise to resolve crucial issues and unique conditions. You will manage competing demands, establish priorities for staff, and be responsible for client interaction, including preparing new contract proposals and attending or leading project meetings. Finally, you will lead and manage current project teams from bid until completion, while looking to obtain future business and performing your own project duties, mentoring and directing junior staff, coordinating with project managers, and managing goal setting and performance management of the engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance in the resolution of design problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years engineering or related land development experience, including at least five years managing multiple complex large scale land development projects (commercial, residential, municipal).
  • Minimum of two years of managing/mentoring direct reports.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in DC (must be able to obtain VA & MD PE Licenses within 3 months of employment).
  • Demonstrated technical experience with a wide range of civil projects and experience serving clients.
  • Proven track record of innovation, leadership, and creativity.
  • Demonstrated project management and communication skills.
  • Experienced with processing land development projects in relevant counties/municipalities.
  • Thorough understanding of municipal codes and regulations.
  • Thorough understanding of business and financial principles in a consulting business.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and develop an engineering and project management team.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D design software.
  • Proficient technical and computer skills, including conducting virtual meetings with staff and/or clients.

  • Competitive salary range of $120,000 to $160,000 based on experience and location.
