About the position

As a Senior Civil Environmental Engineer at Montrose, you will play a pivotal role in our Nashville, TN office, contributing to a wide array of projects that focus on environmental planning and sustainability. You will be responsible for overseeing multiple projects simultaneously, acting as the senior technical lead, and supervising a diverse team of engineering professionals, including staff engineers, technicians, and CAD professionals. Your expertise will guide the team in meeting project deadlines while ensuring adherence to firm standards and quality control. In this role, you will coordinate the daily operations of technical staff, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and providing technical guidance to ensure the accuracy and quality of work. You will also be responsible for developing project deliverables, including technical reports and graphical presentations, and consulting with clients to prepare comprehensive plans and assessments. Your ability to exercise independent judgment in evaluating and adapting standard techniques will be crucial in navigating the complexities of each project. Financial management is another key aspect of this position. You will oversee project budgets, manage invoicing, and ensure compliance with contracts and subcontractor agreements. Additionally, you will maintain confidentiality and adhere to safety regulations, participating in continuous improvement programs and staying current with industry trends through ongoing training and professional development. Specific responsibilities will include preparing permit documents for solid waste management facilities, conducting environmental site assessments, and directing construction quality assurance activities. Your role will also involve preparing construction plans and specifications for various environmental projects, ensuring that all work aligns with regulatory requirements and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Plan multiple projects simultaneously, serving as the senior technical lead.
  • Supervise engineering professionals, staff engineers, technicians, and CAD professionals.
  • Estimate personnel needs, assign work, and ensure completion dates are met.
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of technical staff assigned to projects.
  • Oversee development of project document deliverable outlines and layouts.
  • Consult with clients to prepare plans, reports, and assessments.
  • Exercise judgment in the evaluation and adaptation of standard techniques and procedures.
  • Manage project budgets and hours, ensuring tasks are completed within assigned timeframes.
  • Act as a client manager to understand customer needs and distribute work assignments.
  • Communicate potential issues to leadership that may affect project schedules and budgets.
  • Oversee project setup and authorization paperwork, including contracts and schedules.
  • Manage project financial duties, including invoicing and contract compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safety regulations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs and stay updated on industry trends.
  • Prepare Solid Waste Management Facility permit documents and construction plans.
  • Conduct Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university; Advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of related experience in civil/environmental engineering.
  • Possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Proficient in computer-aided software including Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS.
  • Ability to complete and maintain HAZWOPER certification.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to identify problems and devise solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Strong organizational and management skills.
  • Ability to mentor others and foster accountability within the team.
