About the position

As a Senior Civil Environmental Engineer with Design Experience at Montrose, you will play a pivotal role in our Nashville, TN office, contributing to a variety of projects that focus on environmental planning and sustainability. This position requires a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously. You will be the senior technical lead on projects, supervising a team of engineering professionals, staff engineers, technicians, and CAD professionals. Your responsibilities will include estimating personnel needs, assigning work, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget while adhering to firm standards. In this role, you will coordinate the daily operations of technical staff, providing guidance and oversight to ensure the accuracy and quality of work. You will be responsible for developing project deliverables, including technical reports and graphical presentations, and consulting with clients to prepare plans and assessments. Your expertise will be crucial in evaluating and adapting standard techniques and procedures to meet project requirements. You will also manage project budgets and timelines, acting as a client manager to understand customer needs and distribute work assignments effectively. Communication with leadership regarding potential issues that may affect project schedules and budgets will be essential. Additionally, you will oversee project setup, authorization paperwork, and financial management duties, ensuring compliance with contracts and project requirements. Specific responsibilities will include preparing permit documents for solid waste management facilities, conducting environmental site assessments, and directing construction quality assurance activities. You will also be involved in preparing construction plans and specifications for various environmental projects, ensuring that all work aligns with regulatory standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Plan multiple projects simultaneously, serving as the senior technical lead.
  • Supervise engineering professionals, staff engineers, technicians, and CAD professionals.
  • Estimate personnel needs and assign work to meet completion dates.
  • Interpret and ensure consistent application of firm standards.
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of technical staff assigned to projects.
  • Oversee development of project document deliverable outlines and layouts.
  • Consult with clients to prepare plans, reports, and assessments.
  • Exercise judgment in the evaluation and adaptation of standard techniques and procedures.
  • Manage project budgets and hours, utilizing time effectively to complete tasks.
  • Act as a client manager to understand customer needs and distribute work assignments.
  • Communicate potential issues to leadership that may affect project schedules and budgets.
  • Oversee project setup and authorization paperwork, including contracts and schedules.
  • Manage project financial duties, including invoicing and contract compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise safe work practices according to company safety rules.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs and support team efforts.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends through training and professional development.
  • Prepare Solid Waste Management Facility permit documents and construction plans.
  • Conduct Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university; Advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of related experience in civil environmental engineering.
  • Possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Proficient in computer-aided software including Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS.
  • Ability to complete and maintain HAZWOPER certification with the 40-hour HAZWOPER class and annual refresher class.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to identify problems and devise solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outgoing team player with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong organizational and management skills, with the ability to mentor others.
