As a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer I, you will play a crucial role in providing civil and structural engineering expertise to support the operations, maintenance, and capital improvements of NYPA's plants and facilities. This position encompasses a wide range of practice areas, including structural analysis and design, building engineering, bridge engineering, dam engineering, geotechnical engineering, transmission engineering, and general civil engineering, which includes storm water management systems, water supply, and sanitary sewers. The specific skills required will depend on the practice area in which you will be working. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and reviewing calculations and designs to ensure compliance with applicable codes and accepted design practices. You will create high-quality drawings, details, calculations, specifications, and technical reports to facilitate successful project construction and implementation. Field inspections and condition assessments of facilities will also be part of your duties, along with managing multi-aspect or multi-phase projects. You will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams to complete projects of moderate complexity, review technical documents prepared by your team, and ensure compliance with design standards. Additionally, you will prepare scopes of work and requests for proposals for outside consultants, directing and reviewing their work. Evaluating and recommending the selection of vendors, consultants, and contractors will be part of your responsibilities, as well as mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior engineers. This position requires advanced communication skills for developing technical reports and coordinating project deliverables with internal and external stakeholders, as well as regulatory agencies.
