About the position

The Senior Civil Structural Engineer will play a pivotal role within the Civil, Structural and Architectural (CS&A) team, focusing on the design and analysis of structures for nuclear decommissioning and new build projects. This position offers hybrid working arrangements and requires on-site presence at Devonport three days a week. The role involves leading innovative designs, providing technical expertise, and managing project delivery across various sectors, primarily within the nuclear industry.

Responsibilities

• Delivering Nuclear design work, inspections and construction site support on projects for a range of public and private sector clients within the UK and overseas.
• Conducting concept and feasibility studies for multi-discipline design projects.
• Performing analysis and design using engineering software such as Tekla and Robot, as well as producing hand calculations.
• Preparing calculations, CDM activities, Basis of Design, Material Specifications, Scopes of Work, Technical reports, and inter-discipline design coordination and supervision.
• Liaising with technicians in the preparation of Revit models.
• Working with integrated multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-profile projects.
• Providing technical support to other team members.
• Ensuring all work is carried out with a positive attitude toward safety, both in design and in the office environment.
• Managing project delivery and timelines.
• Assisting and mentoring team members to promote their technical and professional development.

Requirements

• Degree Qualified (BEng or MEng) in Civil / Structural Engineering.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with membership of ICE or IStructE, or working toward full membership of ICE or IStructE.
• Significant experience in the design of structures in reinforced concrete and steelwork.
• Awareness and experience of using the latest design codes and standards.
• Understanding of the relevant legal and regulatory standards.
• Ability to obtain BPSS security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous experience within the nuclear industry and design for seismic loading.
