About the position

AECOM is hiring a Senior Transportation Civil Engineer/Highway Lead to lead our civil / highway engineering practice in West Virginia. The position can be based out of either office in Morgantown, WV or Kenova, WV. We are seeking an experienced, client-focused engineer. Projects range from roadway and site-civil design, for highway and bridge projects, greenways, traffic engineering analysis, design, and transportation planning studies. The Senior Civil Transportation Engineer will lead several of our Transportation projects for our West Virginia clients and have the opportunity to work on other regional and national projects as a key member of the AECOM Mid-Atlantic Transportation Division. Position is available for immediate hire. In this role, you will be responsible for performing engineering, planning, and modeling efforts for all areas of roadway design projects. You will collaborate with other engineers, planners, and modelers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation analyses or design issues. Additionally, you will assist in the engineering and planning effort for roadway and highway design, maintenance of traffic, and safety projects, including following the agency's plan development process. You will guide and mentor junior engineers and provide QA/QC for projects in various areas of highway design, analysis, and simulation. Regular interaction and coordination with clients and sub consultants will be a key part of your assignments. You will also be expected to understand trends, best practices, and innovation in the transportation industry and explore opportunities for implementing them on projects. Assisting with business development activities, including providing responses to RFP, RFQ, and SOQ, will be part of your responsibilities, along with technical writing and scope and fee development. As a senior technical resource, you may serve as a technical advisor for the team, providing specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise. You will develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work by others, participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables, and develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects. Your expertise will be utilized in all steps of completing the discipline component of PS&E packages, performing quality control reviews of design calculations or drawings, preparing technical specification sections, and providing input to the development of engineering budgets and schedules to meet requirements.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • 6 years of related work experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience collaborating with West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH).
  • PE License in West Virginia or reciprocal is required or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on Roadway, Drainage, Traffic, Site-Civil projects.
  • Project design team lead experience.
  • Familiarity with Bentley InRoads, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software applications.
