About the position

Merrick & Company is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer I to join our Surface Water/Stormwater Engineering Infrastructure team. This position is available in multiple locations including Denver, Greenwood Village, Colorado Springs, and Loveland, Colorado. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing assignments related to the analysis and design of river, drainageway, and urban stormwater systems. This role will involve preparing and reviewing working drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports, and other work products. The engineer will also be tasked with performing design tasks, preparing bid documents that include drawings and specifications, and organizing all project deliverables under the supervision of project managers and senior staff. The ideal candidate must become knowledgeable of Merrick's procedures and be able to apply them effectively. They should be capable of making sound engineering decisions and exercising initiative and judgment appropriate to the responsibilities of the position. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effectively interfacing with clients and local, state, and federal government agencies. The candidate will also be expected to lead project progress meetings, make project presentations, and provide clear written communications. Additional responsibilities may include project management for various projects, and some travel may be required to support the growing practice. Field and construction activities may also be part of the job requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments in the analysis and design of river, drainageway, and urban stormwater systems.
  • Prepare and review working drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports, and work products.
  • Perform design tasks and prepare bid documents including drawings and specifications.
  • Organize all drawings, reports, calculations, and associated project deliverables with supervision from project managers and senior staff.
  • Become knowledgeable of Merrick procedures and apply them when required.
  • Make sound engineering decisions and exercise initiative and judgment appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Interface effectively with clients and local, state, and federal government agencies.
  • Lead project progress meetings and make project presentations.
  • Provide clear written communications regarding project status and deliverables.
  • Manage projects as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • P.E. (Professional Engineer) certification in any state with the ability to obtain licensure in the State of Colorado within 6 months.
  • Minimum twelve (12) years of experience in the design and construction oversight of surface water and urban stormwater systems, or in land development, or a related field of civil engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to produce well-coordinated civil design documents.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record, insurable under Merrick's insurance carrier.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GIS Systems.
  • Public works design experience with local, state, and federal governments.
  • Land development experience.
