About the position

The Senior Claims Technical Specialist role at QBE Americas Inc. is a full-time position that involves managing a diverse portfolio of complex and high-severity claims primarily related to Directors and Officers (D&O), Fiduciary, and Financial Institutions Errors and Omissions (E&O). The specialist will work closely with internal business partners, including senior management, underwriters, and actuaries, as well as external customers such as insureds, brokers, and defense counsel to achieve favorable outcomes for the company. This position requires a strong focus on customer care, responsiveness, and satisfaction while managing assigned claims to deliver superior service and outcomes. In this role, the specialist will conduct independent coverage, liability, and damages analysis to assess potential exposure to the company. They will draft correspondence that clearly communicates the company's coverage position and analyze, develop, and determine appropriate case reserves on all assigned claim files. The specialist will also attend mediations of complex claims on behalf of the company to negotiate settlements within their authority and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Additionally, the specialist will collaborate with outside counsel to formulate litigation strategies and represent QBE at industry seminars or through authoring articles. They will work with underwriters to identify and address novel or complex risks, participate in sales calls, and respond to requests for proposals (RFPs). The role also emphasizes personal development and career planning, requiring the specialist to manage budgeted resources effectively and anticipate expenditures to meet fiscal responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse portfolio of complex and high severity claims underwritten out of the Financial Institutions and Public Company teams, focusing mainly on D&O, Fiduciary and Financial Institutions E&O.
  • Conduct independent coverage, liability and damages analysis to assess potential exposure to the Company.
  • Draft correspondence that accurately communicates the Company's coverage position.
  • Analyze, develop and determine appropriate case reserves on all assigned claim files and recommend changes as necessary.
  • Attend mediations of complex claims on behalf of the Company to negotiate settlements within appropriate authority.
  • Drive high levels of customer care, responsiveness, and satisfaction when managing assigned claims.
  • Collaborate with outside representative counsel to formulate litigation strategy.
  • Participate in industry seminars or author articles to represent QBE.
  • Work with Underwriters to identify and address novel or complex risks and participate in sales calls and RFPs.
  • Take ownership for personal development and career planning, and develop required skills and tools to add value to the organization.
  • Manage budgeted resources by anticipating expenditures and properly accounting for expenses.
