About the position

The Senior Clinical Data Scientist at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in Ridgefield, CT, plays a crucial role in transforming, analyzing, and reporting data from phase I-IV clinical trials and other research and development data sources, including registries and real-world databases. This position requires the individual to focus on specific use cases or projects/assets, ensuring that the data transformation and analysis specifications are complete, correct, and adhere to departmental guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and applicable Good Practice (GxP) requirements. In this role, the Senior Clinical Data Scientist will present compelling validated stories regarding data science aspects to colleagues in Biostatistics and Data Science (BDS). They will also support their colleagues on various data science-related tasks and participate in cross-functional BDS internal working groups, driving and planning relevant data science aspects. A strong understanding of international regulations and guidelines for good clinical and statistical practice from all ICH regions is essential, as is familiarity with the various international guidelines on clinical development, including statistical methodology for Therapeutic Area (TA)-related disease areas. The position involves solving complex, defined problems with operational or limited strategic impact within clinical research and development, while considering the needs and requirements of other units and departments. The Senior Clinical Data Scientist is expected to stay updated on data science advancements, particularly new transformation and analysis solutions, as well as innovative processes and tools within the company. Telecommuting is permitted, allowing work to be performed within normal commuting distance from the Ridgefield office 40% of the time. The work schedule is set for 40 hours per week, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Transform, analyze, and report phase I-IV clinical trials and other data from research and development.
  • Present validated stories regarding data science aspects to Biostatistics and Data Science colleagues.
  • Ensure data transformation and analysis specifications adhere to department guidelines and GxP requirements.
  • Support colleagues on data science related tasks.
  • Participate in cross-functional BDS internal working-groups and drive relevant data science aspects.
  • Understand and implement international regulations and guidelines for good clinical and statistical practice.
  • Solve complex problems with operational or limited strategic impact within clinical research and development.
  • Stay updated on new transformation and analysis solutions and innovative processes/tools.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics or a related field, or a Master's degree with three years of experience in a related role.
  • Coursework or experience in statistical methodology.
  • Experience in designing clinical trials or clinical experiments.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in R or SAS.
  • Experience processing clinical trial information.
  • Ability to perform and present hypothesis testing.
  • Experience in literature review and utilizing meta-analysis.
  • Knowledge of Bayesian statistics.
  • Understanding of epidemiology concepts.
  • Experience in longitudinal data analysis.
  • Understanding of oncology data and performing survival analysis.
