About the position

The position involves managing the creation and outsourcing of billing analysis for clinical trials in compliance with CMS regulations and the Clinical Trial Policy. The role serves as a liaison among various stakeholders, ensuring accurate billing and budgeting for research services while providing guidance to Clinical Trial Analysts.

Responsibilities

  • Create coverage analysis grids and analyze performance of coverage analysis.
  • Research and apply policies and guidelines from federal, state, and institutional sources.
  • Disseminate relevant documents and information to various parties.
  • Perform basic and complex billing and budget analysis in accordance with CMS regulations for clinical trials.
  • Develop grids/schedules of events for coverage analysis.
  • Review potentially billable items within clinical trials and cite resources for justification.
  • Apply appropriate CDM and/or CPT codes for billing items in coverage analysis.
  • Collaborate with research teams in performing coverage analysis and facilitating clinical trial management processes.
  • Act as liaison with clinical research teams and healthcare providers.
  • Research and apply regulations related to Medicare, OIG, and FDA guidance.
  • Synchronize final coverage analysis with study documents.
  • Triage coverage analysis requests to vendors when applicable.
  • Track progress and report results of coverage analysis creation with vendors.
  • Assist with segregation of charges for research billing.
  • Review and resolve invoice discrepancies with the Central Billing Office.
  • Create Fee Schedules in Epic for research studies.
  • Organize monthly internal reviews for accuracy in coverage analysis and charge segregation.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on coverage analysis creation and research billing compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Medical Coding, Auditing, Finance, Accounting, Nursing, or a related field required.
  • Four (4) years of clinical research experience required.
  • Two (2) years of additional experience in developing coverage analysis for clinical trials and charge segregation.
  • Certification in Healthcare Research Compliance or Epic preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices for administering clinical trials in compliance with regulations.
  • Skill in tracking clinical and corporate contracts using electronic administration software.
  • Expert knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing programs.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate complex financial data using computer analysis.
  • Proficient organization and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in Healthcare Research Compliance or Epic.
